P0609: Vehicle-speed output channel feedback disagrees with its command

P0609 checks the controller vehicle-speed output circuit, rather than directly testing the incoming speed sensor.

Documented application

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

GM's group 07 P0609 entry names vehicle-speed output circuit 2. Its monitor compares the commanded output-driver state with the observed control-circuit state. The word output matters: this check should not automatically be treated as a fault of the incoming vehicle-speed sensor.

Input accuracy and output integrity are different

A controller can receive credible speed information yet have a problem delivering a monitored output signal. Conversely, an implausible incoming speed value does not by itself prove that this output driver has an electrical defect. Preserve those two diagnostic questions rather than combining them under a generic speed-sensor replacement.

The published supply window is 11–18 volts. The counter requires 100 failures in 120 samples at 250-millisecond intervals. Those details describe repeated feedback disagreement under qualified power conditions.

A source wording issue limits interpretation

The table's frequency cell refers to solenoid operation, despite identifying a speed-output circuit. That wording remains unresolved. This article does not invent a solenoid or infer a component connection from it.

Confirm the exact controller output and vehicle wiring before testing. Record related output-driver faults and the available command/feedback evidence. Verification should establish that the identified output circuit behaves correctly and its monitor completes. A functioning speedometer or an erased P0609 does not independently prove the monitored output channel is sound.
