P068C: Cylinder7 glow-control low is a short-to-ground classification

Understand the heating-mode and timing evidence for Ford P068C while keeping a disputed continuation caption out of the test specification.

Documented application

Ford 2023–2024 diesel OBD summary, August 25, 2023 revision; only the described monitor examples. Confirm the engine and calibration before applying values.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P068C is Ford’s cylinder 7 glow-plug low-circuit entry, listed in the short-to-ground monitoring section and explicitly limited to V8 diesel applications. It should not be confused with the separate cylinder 7 open-load or high-circuit classifications.

Command and timing distinguish the check

The short-to-ground test operates while the glow plugs are in heating mode, with approximately three seconds to register a glow-plug malfunction. The same table gives a different, much shorter duration for reductant-heater circuits. A shared module does not make those load-specific timings interchangeable.

A low-circuit classification also does not mean “low heating current” in every context. The open-load test is separately based on insufficient current, so the exact reported category must be retained before choosing a diagnostic path.

The source continuation needs review

The next page supplies current-related thresholds under a heading that says short to battery, despite following the short-to-ground section. This article does not silently assign those disputed continuation values to P068C as a confirmed specification.

Preserve the cylinder 7 channel, heating command, full fault classification and available driver evidence. The applicable V8 circuit procedure must resolve the correct limits and localize the fault. The code alone does not identify the glow plug, harness or controller as defective, and the disputed caption does not justify an invented current test.
