The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P06A2 is a high-input fault in the variable A/C compressor control circuit. Mazda monitors the compressor valve's control voltage against the PCM command and requires the mismatch to persist for five continuous seconds.
A different fault from poor cooling alone
A warm cabin does not establish P06A2, and P06A2 does not by itself establish a refrigerant shortage. This monitor evaluates the electrical control of the valve built into the A/C compressor. Mazda lists the valve connector, PCM connection, a short to supply in the control wire, the internal valve and the PCM as possible causes.
Its high-input sequence concentrates on the connectors and the control circuit's exposure to supply voltage. This differs from a missing valve power feed: the documented condition is that control voltage is too high for the command being issued.
Avoid an early assembly diagnosis
The factory flow places external circuit inspection ahead of its compressor-valve repeatability decision. A harness fault that holds the command line high can resemble an internal valve fault at the controller, so circuit integrity changes whether the compressor is a reasonable repair candidate.
Confirmation requires a cooling demand, maximum-cold A/C operation and observation of cold vent air, followed by inspection for the same pending code. Persistent faults also pass through communication and repeat-diagnosis checks before a PCM decision. The manual lists no separate fail-safe here; it does not provide evidence that an affected A/C system will still deliver normal cooling.
