P0751: A failed-off solenoid A result depends on commanded transitions
Learn how Ford P0751 uses repeated functional events rather than a single electrical reading.

Documented application
Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD operation summary, July 16 2024 revision; only the cited monitor and transmission architectures. No individual vehicle fitment or universal calibration is inferred.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P0751 describes shift solenoid A as functionally failed off in Ford's monitor. The code concerns the expected response to control activity, not simply an open wire. The document gives separate identifiers for open circuit, short to ground and short to power on the same channel.
Follow the event filter
Functional monitoring is tied to off-to-on solenoid transitions. Ford describes an event lasting about one second during a shift or 2.5 seconds in a non-shifting observation. A bad event raises the fault filter by three; a correct non-shifting clutch state reduces it by one. The typical stored-fault boundary is nine.
This counter behavior explains why the latest event may look normal while the accumulated history remains relevant. It also means that three unsuccessful observations are not automatically equivalent to a fixed elapsed-time test under every condition.
Separate a missing response from an electrical classification
For solenoid A, P0750/P097A and the detailed _13 representation concern the open-circuit branch. P0751 is shown with _7F, the failed-off functional category. Confirm which result the transmission actually reports before choosing a circuit-only investigation.
A useful record aligns the commanded transition with the observed clutch or gear response and the electrical status. The summary does not reveal a universal A-solenoid clutch assignment, so failure to respond cannot by itself name a worn clutch or stuck valve. The matching transmission procedure must determine why the expected functional state was not achieved.
