P076F: Seventh-gear ratio and unknown gear state are different documented uses
Learn how Ford P076F monitoring depends on architecture and which companion codes identify seventh-gear engagement failures.

Documented application
Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD operation summary, July 16 2024 revision; only the cited monitor and transmission architectures. No individual vehicle fitment or universal calibration is inferred.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P076F appears in Ford's general list as an incorrect seventh-gear ratio. The same document's TR9070 table uses it for an unknown seventh-gear state. That architectural difference is useful evidence, not a detail to discard when a scanner shows only the generic title.
The general ratio check requires more than a mismatch
Ford's forward-gear example requires a held gear, adequate torque and speed, and an interval without shifting. Its typical malfunction is an error greater than 30 rpm lasting over 2.5 seconds, recurring six times across key cycles without solenoid faults being detected.
This means a momentary relationship seen while changing into seventh is not automatically the documented failed event. A record should establish both the requested gear and the eligible interval before treating the speed difference as a ratio conclusion.
In the DCT, identify which gear action is uncertain
The TR9070 table separately assigns P074F to failure to engage seventh and P073C to failure to disengage it. P076F's unknown-state classification does not choose one of those directions for the reader.
Preserve the transmission identity, full code, command state and relevant speed traces. Unreliable speed inputs or accompanying electrical faults weaken a mechanical interpretation until their role is understood. The summary cannot assign a universal seventh-gear clutch or repair. It supports choosing the correct state or ratio investigation for the specific architecture.
