P082F: A high Y-axis duty signal is an electrical-range result
Learn why GM P082F requires repeated high readings on gear-lever sensor 1 rather than a conclusion about the lever’s physical position.

Documented application
2025 GM 03B documented monitor only. Vehicle, engine and controller calibration applicability must be established separately; no model fitment is inferred from the file.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P082F selects the high-circuit assessment for gear-lever Y position sensor 1. The documented GM strategy watches the raw duty cycle on that channel. It does not infer which gear has mechanically engaged from the high percentage alone.
Repeated readings establish the fault
The published upper limit is above ninety-five percent. The controller must first remain awake for at least 0.05 second. Ten failing observations within twelve samples are then counted on a 25-millisecond loop, with two-trip reporting.
These conditions distinguish a qualifying high signal from a brief startup transition. They also show why an isolated average value may not preserve the failure history: the monitor uses a sequence of observations after its enable delay.
Retain Y-axis information independently
The X and Y channels represent different monitored inputs, and this code specifically names sensor 1. A satisfactory value on another channel cannot substitute for the Y duty-cycle evidence. A decoded selector label likewise answers a different question from the raw electrical-range test.
The source provides no universal duty-to-lever-position conversion, no connector pin and no direct voltage threshold. It therefore supports checking the specified channel's valid signal range without deciding that a particular mechanical range is selected. Further isolation of the sensor, connection and receiving circuit must follow the matching selector-system diagnostic information.
