Documented application

FCA bulletin 18-007-26 Rev. A, February 2026: North American 2022 Jeep Gladiator JT with 3.6 L ERC engine. The P08A6 and clutch-slip messages discussed here concern the manual transmission.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

Why the driving event matters

P08A6 is a multiple-sensor correlation fault in the gear-lever position system. FCA lists it in a PCM software bulletin for the manual-transmission Gladiator, together with a possible service-transmission message and reduced-power operation. The document explains that wheelspin or tire slippage can be interpreted as excessive clutch slip. Record whether the warning followed a low-traction event, because that history helps distinguish the documented software behavior from a complaint that began during ordinary clutch operation.

Avoid treating a correlation code as a parts order

Save the complete code report and the circumstances of the warning before clearing anything. A workshop should verify the 2022 JT application, ERC engine, manual transmission and installed PCM software. Other faults require their own diagnosis before the update path. The bulletin supports a calibration remedy for the described vehicle and symptoms; it does not establish that every gear-position sensor, clutch or wiring circuit is healthy merely because a software update exists.

What a supported update should achieve

The repair is programming the PCM with the applicable latest software using the manufacturer process and controlled battery support. The package also includes other changes, so an oil-pump enhancement listed in the same bulletin should not be mistaken for the cause of P08A6. After programming, temporary programming codes are cleared and the original warning should be reassessed. If the fault returns during normal driving, retain the new scan and pursue the gear-position diagnostic procedure instead of assuming repeated flashing will cure a physical fault.
