P0976: Solenoid B circuit low identifies an electrical branch, not a pressure target
Understand Ford P0976 short-to-ground reporting and the distinction from B-channel failed-off behavior.

Documented application
Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD operation summary, July 16 2024 revision; only the cited monitor and transmission architectures. No individual vehicle fitment or universal calibration is inferred.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P0976 identifies the B-channel circuit-low condition in the generic description. Ford's general table classifies that result as a short to ground and pairs it with P0755_11. This is electrical path evidence, rather than a direct assessment of transmission-fluid pressure.
The controller uses driver feedback
Ford describes continuous electrical monitoring and a typical 1.5-second period of smart-driver fault feedback. That criterion differs from the event filter used to judge whether a solenoid functionally changes state. The source does not provide a universal test voltage or resistance value for the B circuit.
P0756/P0755_7F is the separate failed-off functional category. A lack of expected mechanical response cannot, by itself, identify the grounding classification represented by P0976. Conversely, an electrically classified fault remains relevant even if a later shift appears normal.
Preserve the affected channel and event
A useful diagnostic record includes the full code, B-channel command, driver status and any concurrent supply-related results. Compare information from the same event rather than combining an old circuit code with an unrelated later hydraulic observation.
The B label does not establish one physical valve position across all transmissions. The document does not determine whether the grounding path is in a load, connection or controller output. Verification requires the matched circuit procedure to isolate the electrical condition before a part or valve-body repair is justified.
