P0985: Solenoid E circuit low calls for electrical evidence rather than a pressure assumption

Documented application

Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD operation summary, July 16 2024 revision; only the cited monitor and transmission architectures. No individual vehicle fitment or universal calibration is inferred.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P0985 is Ford's short-to-ground electrical result for shift solenoid E, paired with P0770_11. Low in this context does not describe measured line pressure. It identifies the fault category reported for the control circuit.

Keep driver feedback separate from functional response

Ford's general electrical monitor runs continuously and uses smart-driver fault feedback, with a typical 1.5-second persistence criterion. Functional tests evaluate transitions and accumulated response events instead. Their counting rules do not establish the electrical threshold for P0985.

The E failed-off result is separately represented by P0771/P0770_7F. A missing response may be important, but it does not by itself locate the ground-side electrical path. A later normal response likewise cannot explain where an earlier circuit event originated.

Retain the channel and operating context

Preserve the complete scanner result, E command, electrical status and any simultaneous control-supply faults. Comparing information from the same event is more useful than combining a historical circuit code with an unrelated current shift observation.

The summary does not identify one universal physical E-solenoid location or provide a connector voltage and resistance procedure. It also does not prove that the load itself is defective. Verification requires the exact transmission's electrical information to isolate the reported condition, while any functional failed-off evidence remains a separate finding.
