Documented application
FCA 18-041-15 concerns 2015 Ram 2500/3500 DJ/D2 with the 6.7 L ETK diesel, built through April 28, 2015.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
The software case qualifies the leak label
P2281 is listed as an air-leak indication between the mass-airflow sensor and throttle body in this ECM/PCM update. That establishes a software-related possibility on the specified diesel trucks. It does not verify that an intake hose is leaking, nor does it prove that an observed physical leak may be ignored.
An error message is not the only completion evidence
FCA notes that a flash-failure message can itself be erroneous. The procedure checks whether U1601 is absent, the controller part number has updated and the engine starts before deciding that programming succeeded. A failed criterion changes the next step. This prevents both unnecessary repeated flashing and accepting an incomplete update based only on the progress display.
The transmission determines the final sequence
The 68RFE branch includes its prescribed shutdown and Quick Learn; other transmissions use a different delay. These completion steps do not mean the intake-leak code diagnoses the gearbox. Preserve the original fault and intake findings, verify the applicable calibration and complete the correct equipment-dependent sequence. Then reassess P2281 under current diagnostic guidance. The bulletin supplies no universal airflow threshold or mandatory hose replacement. If the code returns after a verified update, continue diagnosing the actual air-measurement and intake-system evidence rather than assuming the software case has ruled out every physical fault.
