Documented application
2025 GM 25OBDG03A diagnostic monitor only; exact vehicle, engine and calibration applicability is not established.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P228C indicates that the high-pressure fuel system cannot maintain its requested rail pressure in the reviewed GM direct-injection strategy. The generic regulator-A title does not establish that a discrete regulator is the defective part.
Understand the pressure error direction
The monitor calculates desired pressure minus measured pressure. An excessive positive error means actual rail pressure is too low. The permissible error comes from a supporting calibration table; this source does not justify one universal pressure-difference limit for all operating conditions.
The documented decision uses 10 seconds of failing evidence within a 12.5-second sample window. A short pressure transient should therefore be distinguished from a sustained failure to follow the target.
The low-pressure supply is a prerequisite
Battery voltage must be at least 11 V and low-side pressure must exceed 0.275 MPa. The engine must not be cranking, and the low-side pump must be on. Relevant rail-pressure-sensor, pump-circuit, position-sensor and temperature faults must also be absent, with several service-control modes excluded.
These conditions change interpretation: an incomplete high-pressure performance monitor during inadequate low-side supply is not evidence that the high-pressure pump passed. Likewise, recorded sensor validity is important before treating reported pressure error as actual hydraulic behavior.
Fuel-pressure diagnosis and repair require the applicable professional procedure because the system stores high pressure. Verification should demonstrate sustained tracking of requested rail pressure and completion of the enabled monitor. The code alone does not authorize pump, injector or regulator replacement.
