Documented application
2025 GM 25OBDG04B diagnostic parameter file; the cited monitor is documented, but individual vehicle, engine and calibration applicability has not been established.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P2296 is listed here as fuel pressure regulator solenoid 2 control circuit high voltage. Although the generic dictionary calls it regulator B, the GM monitor identifies the rail pressure regulator valve's low-side driver. “High” describes the electrical diagnosis, not measured fuel rail pressure.
What the controller checks
The driver is powered on when the controller compares its voltage feedback against internal limits. Feedback outside the expected on-state range indicates a short to power. The table associates this with a signal-to-controller-power impedance below 0.5 ohm; that is a controller design specification, not an instruction to resistance-test a live circuit.
The check requires powertrain relay voltage above 11 V, no engine cranking, calibration permission and usable hardware fault feedback. Its counter is 61 failed samples out of 122 at a 6.25 ms task rate. The table assigns Type A, one-trip reporting.
Diagnostic implications
A rail-pressure value alone cannot verify this fault because the decision is made from driver feedback. Retain the electrical fault status and operating state, then use the correct wiring and diagnostic procedure to distinguish the control circuit from a pressure-regulation problem. An engine-cranking observation does not reproduce the documented enable conditions. Fuel-system work requires appropriate professional precautions; this table does not authorize opening high-pressure lines.
Source and application limits
This explanation covers the cited 2025 GM monitor. Confirm the vehicle and calibration in its service information before applying these limits; inclusion in this file does not establish model compatibility. GM diagnostic parameters, PDF page 815.
