P2425: An EGR cooling-valve open-load report is an actuator-circuit finding

P2425 identifies an open-load condition in the EGR cooling-valve actuator circuit in Ford’s diesel summary. The monitor is electrical. It does not directly report whether exhaust gas has reached a target temperature or whether the cooler transfers enough heat.

Preserve the open category and its timing

The source lists continuous execution and a two-second malfunction-registration duration, with the timing continuing onto the following page. P2426 and P2427 are separately listed for low and high short-circuit classifications. Those categories should not be merged into one generic cooling-valve failure.

A lack of expected cooling behavior may be relevant context, but it cannot by itself establish an open actuator load. Conversely, a later normal operating response does not recreate the circuit state that produced the stored fault.

Establish the affected control path

Retain the full diagnostic identifier, requested actuator operation and available electrical status. The document distinguishes this EGR cooling-valve circuit from other engine-coolant bypass valves, so a similar valve label is insufficient to select the component or connector.

Ford does not publish an open-load resistance threshold, pinout or direct-power test for P2425 in this summary. It cannot localize an interruption to the valve winding, a connection, harness or controller output. The applicable vehicle circuit procedure is necessary before selecting a repair, rather than condemning the EGR cooler itself from an electrical actuator code.
