P2435: Bank 2 AIR pressure can fail while staying within range

See how GM detects a Bank 2 secondary-air pressure signal that stays in range but does not respond when the pump runs.

Documented application

GM 2009 09OBDG11 Engine Diagnostics, Dual Bank section, only the cited secondary-air monitor. Physical bank location and per-code vehicle applicability require vehicle-specific service information.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

The broad “sensor circuit” label for P2435 can obscure the actual test. In GM's cited dual-bank monitor, the controller is looking for a Bank 2 secondary-air pressure signal stuck within its normal range while the AIR pump is commanded on. An input does not need to hit a voltage limit to fail this check.

The missing response is the clue

The failure criteria combine average error below 0.50 kPa with signal variation below 1.00 kPa. Both are required in this table. These are internal response metrics; interpreting the small numbers as evidence that everything agrees normally would reverse the purpose of the monitor.

The test needs more than five seconds of cumulative stuck-in-range evidence. GM schedules it once per trip when the pump is commanded on, after an engine-off interval longer than 7,200 seconds. Intake temperature must exceed 5°C and coolant must be between 5°C and 80°C. A warm restart is therefore not equivalent to the qualified cold-start observation.

Distinguish a flat signal from a skewed one

P2436 checks disagreement with barometric pressure; P2435 addresses insufficient response during a commanded pump event. Recording the signal before and during that event is more informative than viewing one stationary pressure number.

The source also inhibits testing for relevant control and reference faults. Resolve whether the monitor actually ran before judging a reset successful. Its summary does not establish sensor pinouts, physical bank location or a replacement decision, and a flat recorded signal still needs vehicle-specific diagnosis.
