Documented application

Ford 2015 model-year diesel OBD system operation summary, revision December 22, 2014; the cited monitor only, without blanket model or engine applicability.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P247B is exhaust-temperature sensor 4 out of range in Ford's documented 2015 diesel system. The out-of-range check is explicitly high-side only and typically uses 1,150°C as its boundary. It is a temperature-domain evaluation, distinct from the sensor's electrical voltage limits.

Do not substitute another sensor 4 test

P2470 and P2471 identify electrical low and high conditions. Separate rationality codes compare the sensor with modeled or other measured temperatures. P247B retains a different question: has the interpreted temperature exceeded the engineering range?

Ford lists continuous execution, a typical two-second duration, key-on and battery voltage between 9 and 16.25 volts. These conditions differ from the long-soak prerequisites used for cold-start comparisons.

Establish what the high reading represents

Confirm sensor 4's location for the actual exhaust configuration, and preserve the reading with other temperature and circuit faults. The code alone cannot prove either a real thermal event or a failed sensing element. The source's description of possible EGT applications does not locate every sensor on every engine. Follow the applicable diagnostic procedure, with safe handling of hot exhaust components, before selecting a sensor or aftertreatment repair.

The documented monitor explains the fault decision; vehicle-specific service information is still needed for connector identification and a complete repair procedure.
