P25B2: An A-or-B stuck result does not identify which fuel-level sender failed

Learn how Ford P25B2 compares fuel consumption with level change while preserving uncertainty about the affected input.

Documented application

Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD operation summary, July 16 2024 revision; only the cited monitor and transmission architectures. No individual vehicle fitment or universal calibration is inferred.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P25B2 is Ford's fuel-level sensor A-or-B stuck category. Unlike P25B0 and P25B1, its label does not identify one specific sender. That uncertainty should remain part of the diagnostic interpretation rather than being resolved by guessing a physical tank location.

The monitor evaluates change over consumption

Ford compares calculated fuel-tank capacity consumed with the change in the reported level. Its example thresholds vary with the indicated region: over 60 percent disagreement above 90 percent, over 30 percent below 10 percent, and over 25 percent in the intermediate region.

The summary also describes a lengthy monitoring opportunity, roughly 100–120 miles between 15 and 85 percent. A stable dashboard reading over a short interval therefore does not by itself reproduce the functional failure. These are example monitor conditions, not a prescribed drive distance for every vehicle.

Keep both input identities available

Retain the complete code, available A/B level data and calculated fuel-use history. If only the combined or generic gauge value is recorded, the evidence may be insufficient to distinguish the individual sensing paths. Electrical high, low and noisy classifications are separate from this stuck comparison.

The source provides no universal two-sender tank arrangement or replacement rule. Verification must use the actual vehicle's level-sensing architecture to determine which input or relationship is responsible, while preserving the code's A-or-B uncertainty until evidence resolves it.
