Documented application

Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD summary, July 16, 2024 revision; only the described monitor and architecture. Model, engine and calibration fitment are not inferred.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P261D identifies the high control-circuit classification for coolant pump B. Ford pairs it with P261A_12 and attributes the circuit assessment to the smart driver’s output-fault report. The word “high” does not describe coolant temperature, pump speed or cooling-loop pressure.

The operating window is part of the evidence

The published B-pump monitor is continuous, has a five-second duration and requires battery voltage of at least 11 V. A transient observation under a different supply condition should not be treated as though it were the same completed diagnostic check.

The section defines pump B by its component-cooling role in a high-temperature auxiliary loop. That source-specific role matters on vehicles with several electric pumps; alphabetical naming alone does not establish a universal installation location.

Separate the high output report from nearby categories

Ford lists performance, supply-voltage, temperature and speed-related pump classifications separately. Preserve those exact identifiers if present rather than folding every result into an undifferentiated “bad pump” conclusion.

For P261D itself, the summary supplies no universal voltage cutoff, wire identity or resistance limit. Useful verification records the command state, eligible battery voltage and the driver fault status, then uses the matching wiring and controlled diagnostic procedure. The monitor cannot establish from the code alone whether the high classification originated in wiring, the connected pump or the controller’s output circuitry.
