P2771: 4WD low switch state versus the calculated transfer ratio
The historical GM monitor compares the reported four-wheel-drive low switch state with a calculated ratio before setting P2771.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P2771 in this GM monitor is a disagreement between the four-wheel-drive low switch signal and the transfer ratio inferred by the controller. It is not a direct inspection of the transfer case gears. The monitor addresses a switch circuit that can remain open or grounded while the calculated operating state suggests otherwise.
Why the two failure branches matter
The source distinguishes an open switch accompanied by a calculated ratio between 2.4 and 3.0 from a second branch using a ratio between 0.65 and 1.85. Their persistence requirements differ: the first requires at least two seconds and the second at least seven seconds. A single switch snapshot therefore cannot reproduce the controller's full decision. Record both the reported switch state and the ratio context associated with the failure.
The check also needs credible operating conditions. Engine speed, torque, throttle position, supply voltage and transmission temperature must be inside their permitted regions, and the vehicle must have been running and moving long enough for evaluation. A static ignition-on switch reading is useful information, but it does not demonstrate that this driving monitor has passed.
A focused diagnostic handoff
Give the technician the complete scan, the selected transfer-case mode and any recent switch, wiring or transfer-case work. The relevant distinction is whether the electrical state is inconsistent with an otherwise plausible ratio, or whether the ratio information itself needs investigation. Use the vehicle-specific wiring and transfer-case procedure to separate those possibilities. Do not attempt to reproduce the fault by changing drive modes in unsuitable conditions. The historical row does not identify the failed component or establish fitment for every GM four-wheel-drive vehicle.
