P281E: solenoid H voltage-high diagnosis depends on valve mapping
P281E reports a voltage-side electrical fault in the circuit assigned to pressure control solenoid H.

Documented application
Documented 2025 GM gm-2025-04b monitor only; vehicle, engine and controller applicability must be established separately.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
The GM transmission monitor for P281E looks for circuit voltage outside the controller's acceptable range in the direction associated with a short to a voltage source. This is an electrical classification; it is not a measurement of excessive transmission oil pressure.
Identify which circuit is called H
The same row maps H to different functions: torque-converter-clutch pressure control in a nine-speed unit, torque-converter-clutch control in a ten-speed unit, the default valve in an eight-speed unit, or mode valve B in a CVT. Those distinctions change which wiring diagram and driver data are relevant. Applying a diagram solely because another transmission also reports P281E can lead to testing the wrong circuit.
The table requires the assigned high-side supply driver to be on and the diagnostic to be enabled in calibration. Its fault decision uses more than 0.30 seconds of failing samples in a window longer than 0.50 seconds. It also qualifies battery supply and operating power mode. A stored event therefore records a particular electrical operating state, not necessarily a permanent fault visible with everything switched off.
Diagnostic consequences
Compare the event with supply voltage and driver commands before interpreting a voltage measurement. An unexpectedly high reading matters only against the specified controller state and its official circuit limits. The table does not prove whether the external harness, load or controller created the condition. Confirmation should demonstrate that the correct H circuit passes when powered and commanded under its enable conditions.
