P2B63: An actuator-stuck report should not be reduced to an open circuit
Learn what Ford’s P2B63 pump classification establishes and why its printed pump label needs confirmation.

Documented application
Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD summary, July 16, 2024 revision; only the described monitor and architecture. Model, engine and calibration fitment are not inferred.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P2B63 is the actuator-stuck classification in Ford’s auxiliary coolant pump B table, paired with P261A_71. It describes a reported operating condition rather than the separate electrical-open, low or high classifications in the same family. A pump that appears motionless needs that distinction preserved.
A stuck classification does not identify the cause
The pump group runs continuously, lists a five-second monitoring duration and requires battery voltage of at least 11 V. A test performed outside that supply window does not recreate the documented eligible state.
The summary does not disclose the rotor-position, speed or current rule used to declare the actuator stuck. It therefore cannot support inventing a stall-current threshold or claiming a particular mechanical obstruction from P2B63 alone.
Resolve the pump identity before locating hardware
There is a source-label inconsistency: the B heading and P261A detailed-code family identify pump B, but the P2B63 row describes pump A. No physical component assignment is inferred from that conflict. Match the vehicle’s complete code and cooling-loop documentation first.
Preserve requested pump operation, available operating feedback and companion supply, temperature or circuit faults. Those observations help distinguish a reported stuck condition from a failure to command the pump or a separate electrical problem. The source does not justify forcing the rotor, applying direct power or replacing an assumed pump solely from the generic stalled-actuator label.
