P052C: Bank 2 over-advance during cold start is a bank-specific response result
Interpret Ford P052C with the correct bank, early control window and distinction between target error and actuator movement.

Documented application
Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD operation summary, July 16 2024 revision; only the documented monitor variants. No individual model, engine or calibration fitment inferred.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P052C concerns over-advanced cam timing on bank 2 during Ford's cold-start emission-reduction operation. The bank identity and cold-start context are essential: a normal result from bank 1 or from later warm operation does not verify this particular check.
Compare bank 2 with its own requested phase
Ford enables the monitor when variable cam timing is commanded during cold-start control. Its entry period ends 60 seconds after cold-start cam-phase monitoring begins, and the listed monitoring duration is five seconds.
The meaningful record therefore contains bank 2's command, measured response and timing within that early window. A side-by-side bank comparison can be misleading if the commanded phases differ or if one bank's control is disabled.
Interpret the threshold in the right monitor
The page lists an 11-degree over-advance target-error criterion and separately describes insufficient movement under a ten-degree command. These belong to the cold-start check; longer general VCT target-error criteria from another section are not interchangeable specifications.
The source does not identify which engine or actuator hardware is fitted to every vehicle reporting P052C. It also does not prove a timing-drive displacement or a failed component from the code alone. Use calibration-specific service information to investigate the observed response, then verify a completed bank 2 cold-start check. Clearing memory followed by a warm idle may never exercise the required diagnostic opportunity.
Source and applicability
This explanation covers the cited Ford monitor variants, not every vehicle displaying this code. Match the engine, sensor architecture and calibration before applying numerical limits.
