P068D: Zero current alone cannot distinguish every glow-plug fault
Learn the cylinder7 high-circuit classification and why Ford’s heating-mode current statement needs its complete diagnostic context.

Documented application
Ford 2023–2024 diesel OBD summary, August 25, 2023 revision; only the described monitor examples. Confirm the engine and calibration before applying values.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P068D is Ford’s cylinder 7 glow-plug high-circuit entry, classified in the short-to-battery section and marked V8 diesel only. The published malfunction statement gives zero individual glow-plug current while heating is commanded. That statement must be interpreted within the controller’s classification, not as a standalone universal proof of a short to battery.
Compare the complete category, not only the current number
The neighboring open-load check uses current below 1 A. Zero current therefore cannot, by itself, distinguish every possible open and high-circuit case from a simple external measurement. The relevant driver state and applicable diagnostic procedure remain necessary.
For the high-circuit check, Ford lists approximately one second to register a glow-plug malfunction. The reductant-heater entries on the same page use a different duration and should not supply the timing for cylinder 7.
Preserve heating and channel identity
Record the V8 application, cylinder 7 channel, active heating request and complete fault report. A zero-current observation when heating is not requested does not recreate the source’s test state.
The summary does not locate the electrical path or publish a universal connector voltage for this code. It cannot justify condemning the plug or control module from one current reading. Vehicle-specific verification must establish why the controller classified the channel as high while respecting the documented operating mode.
