P0753: Shift solenoid A electrical fault versus a stuck valve

P0753 detects an electrical fault in shift-solenoid A control, separately from the gear-ratio performance checks.

Documented application

2009 General Motors diagnostic parameter file 09OBDG09 TRANS Diagnostics.pdf. Section-specific modules and calibrations; no per-code model or engine applicability established.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P0753 checks the electrical control of shift solenoid A in GM's group 09 transmission table. Hardware circuitry can classify a ground short, open circuit or short to voltage under this code. The code alone does not distinguish those electrical causes.

Keep the electrical and ratio checks separate

The same page describes P0752 using commanded gear and observed gear ratio to identify a solenoid-valve performance problem. P0753 instead comes from the circuit's electrical monitoring. A wrong gear ratio does not by itself prove the circuit fault, and an electrical fault does not establish which hydraulic component is mechanically stuck.

For this calibration, the counter requires 43 failing observations in 50 counts, with a listed 4.3-second interval. Ignition voltage must be in the documented range, and engine speed must remain above its qualifying level for five seconds.

The monitored channel must match the transmission

Solenoid A is a logical identifier in this source. It is not a universal connector pin or physical location across transmissions. Confirm the transmission and applicable circuit diagram before testing.

Record current electrical codes and the relevant command information before clearing memory. The summary supports a circuit investigation, not an automatic solenoid or transmission replacement. Verification should demonstrate completed electrical monitoring; any remaining gear-ratio or shift-quality issue must then be evaluated on its own evidence.
