The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P0768 identifies shift solenoid D electrical in the general dictionary. Mazda's CW6A-EL manual calls the monitored component shift solenoid number 4.
Do not assign a gear from the solenoid number
The documented monitor requires battery voltage at least 10.5 V and identifies a circuit malfunction. It lists an open or short in the number 4 solenoid circuit and a solenoid fault. No gear-specific conclusion, coil resistance specification or hydraulic-pressure limit appears on this page.
The transmission enters emergency mode, with learning, manual mode, neutral-idle control, i-stop and AAS inhibited. A driver's inability to select manual shifts can therefore be a deliberate response to this electrical DTC rather than evidence of a separate selector-switch failure.
What the factory repair branch actually says
After recording the snapshot, Mazda checks related service information and directs unresolved cases to control valve body replacement. This is a source-specific assembly decision for CW6A-EL. It does not authorize choosing an individual universal “solenoid D” from a generic catalog without confirming the transmission design.
Completion requires ignition-on operation and another TCM fault inspection. The original electrical finding and any companion records should be retained for comparison. A confirmed solenoid-circuit fault must be kept separate from unsupported assumptions about clutch wear, fluid condition or the need for an entire replacement transmission.
