P0D59: high proximity voltage requires valid speed and shift information
GM P0D59 evaluates high proximity-circuit voltage under specified vehicle-motion conditions, separately from control-pilot faults.

Documented application
GM 2015 15OBDG01 Hybrid Diagnostics, cited HCP2/VICM proximity monitor only. No per-code vehicle assignment or universal connector-test specification is established.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P0D59 is the high-voltage side of the proximity-detection circuit check in this GM HCP2 table. It concerns a low-voltage interface signal, not the high-voltage battery bus. The circuit's name should therefore not be used to choose an unrelated charger-voltage specification.
The event includes more than voltage
The cited threshold is above 4.8 V. Evaluation requires system voltage above 9 V, vehicle speed above 12.4 mph, a shift position other than Park and no vehicle-speed faults. A technician needs those conditions with the voltage report to understand the event.
The failure criterion is 30 failed samples out of 50 at a 100-millisecond sampling interval. A five-second pass period is listed. GM classifies it as one-trip Type A. A brief value seen in a stationary scan does not, by itself, demonstrate that these conditions were satisfied.
Diagnose the correct interface path
Proximity detection and control-pilot supervision are separate functions in the table. Their codes can provide related context, but their signal limits and enabling conditions are not interchangeable. Record the exact controller and full code rather than reporting only a general charging fault.
This document does not prove that the inlet, cord or controller must be replaced. Vehicle-specific circuit information is needed to separate those possibilities. Its speed condition is not an instruction to drive with a cable attached or defeat an interlock. Charging-interface inspection should follow the manufacturer's applicable safe diagnostic procedure.
