Documented application
Ford 2023–2024 diesel OBD summary, revised August 25, 2023; these are documented monitor examples, not confirmed fitment or universal thresholds for every vehicle carrying this generic code.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P2074 is MAP/MAF-to-throttle correlation at higher load. Ford’s diesel summary describes two learning-related routes: the final stored high-load air-mass adaptation value exceeds its allowance, or the algorithm cannot learn a stable value within twenty learning events.
A boundary failure differs from unstable learning
The first route requires comparison with application-specific adaptation limits. Ford lists differing values for its engine/chassis examples, so a threshold from one calibration cannot be assumed for another.
The second route concerns failure to stabilize, even before a satisfactory final value is established. “Twenty learning events” is not twenty seconds or twenty arbitrary accelerator applications. The source does not publish a driver procedure for generating those events.
The learning window must actually run
Ford lists one check per drive cycle, a typical five-second monitoring duration, and active air-mass adaptation. Valid air-meter, barometric-pressure, and EGR-related diagnostics are prerequisites.
Useful verification distinguishes an excessive stored result from incomplete or unstable learning, then confirms which qualifying opportunities occurred. P2073 is the idle-cell counterpart; its result cannot stand in for the high-load cell. The summary does not identify a faulty meter, throttle, or intake component from P2074 alone. It supplies an adaptation-state diagnosis that needs the actual vehicle’s service information for cause isolation and successful learning verification.
Source and applicability
