P217D: How injector group H supply faults are classified electrically
Understand P217D’s documented high-side short checks and why they do not identify a physical repair on their own.

Documented application
2025 GM 25OBDG07A Part 2 monitor tables only; model, engine and transmission applicability are not established by the unresolved application-matrix filename join.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
The generic P217D description uses injector group H supply voltage circuit/open. In the GM implementation cited here, the row names cylinder 8 injector “H” and diagnoses short circuits at the high side of the driver. Both the generic title and source-specific scope need to remain visible when interpreting the code.
Two different states can produce the same code
The source lists low voltage during the off state as the ground-short criterion. It also lists high voltage during the on state as the supply-short criterion. A two-event maturation count is specified, with basic enable and inhibition conditions supplied elsewhere in the document.
Because the failure alternatives share the code, an individual voltage reading is incomplete without the corresponding command. The word “open” in the generic heading is not sufficient to choose an open-circuit repair path.
What the source helps distinguish
The monitor concerns electrical control, not a direct measurement of injected fuel or nozzle performance. It can explain why fuel-delivery observations should not be interpreted as an isolated mechanical injector issue until the driver evidence is understood.
A practical investigation needs the precise vehicle circuit map and any available branch-specific driver status. The source's cylinder and letter names do not establish a universal harness location or shared-feed grouping. The code narrows the electrical problem but cannot distinguish the injector load, connections and internal driver without additional testing through the applicable service procedure.
