P2298: An out-of-range wideband signal with operating conditions that need careful reading
Understand the documented P2298 air-fuel signal check without assuming the generic deceleration wording defines its enable state.

Documented application
2025 GM 25OBDG07A Part 2 monitor tables only; model, engine and transmission applicability are not established by the unresolved application-matrix filename join.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
The generic P2298 name says bank 2 sensor 1 out of range during deceleration. The GM row examined here instead describes an air-fuel signal check while injection valves are activated and the engine is running on its own power. This operating-context difference must remain visible rather than being resolved by guesswork.
The source compares a corrected lambda-equivalent value
The listed failure criterion is a lambda-equivalent value above 12, derived from electrically corrected pump current, for ten seconds. Requested lambda at the sensor location must remain below 1.6. The monitor is therefore evaluating a very different measured indication from the requested mixture under its specified conditions.
The row also requires the bank 2 ceramic temperature above 655 °C, valid correction information and regulated sensor operation. Those qualifications matter before interpreting an extreme reported value as a physical mixture measurement.
Why a generic label is insufficient for a drive test
The original PDF confirms the injection-active condition. A technician should not assume that deliberately entering fuel-cut deceleration reproduces this particular monitor just because the generic code title contains “deceleration.” The actual calibration procedure must establish the intended operating sequence.
Preserve corrected signal, requested lambda, injection state and sensor validity together. The source does not isolate a failed sensor or identify a fuel-system cause. It supports understanding the documented out-of-range comparison, while the difference between the generic label and this implementation remains a source-review limitation before prescribing a specific retest.
