The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P2502 covers charging-system voltage. Mazda's M Hybrid implementation can be triggered by battery voltage, hybrid battery temperature, state of charge, or a converter-input condition during a communication failure.
Identify which condition occurred
The factory criteria include 12-volt battery voltage at or below 11 V, hybrid battery temperature at or above 90 °C, hybrid charge at or below 10% or at or above 95%, and converter input at or below 21.2 V during the specified PCM-to-battery communication error. These are alternative paths, not measurements that must all be abnormal together.
This breadth makes the snapshot and module data essential. A discharged hybrid battery after prolonged storage and a temporarily hot battery are expressly included in the possible causes. Neither should be silently converted into an automatic battery-replacement diagnosis.
Use the branch-specific evidence
Mazda examines the battery, converter and ISG records, then uses state-of-charge, temperature and individual-cell data to distinguish the branches. Depending on the condition, it can stop conversion or generation and isolate the hybrid battery. The source warns that continued operation with depleted electrical supply can eventually stop the vehicle.
The repair flow also covers charge/discharge wiring and equipment-dependent seat-control supply circuits. Confirmation reproduces the recorded electrical consumption during a controlled idle period. Qualified hybrid diagnosis should establish the triggering branch before selecting hardware; an ordinary alternator-only test does not cover this system.
