The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P2503 reports low charging-system voltage. In this Mazda M Hybrid monitor, it can come from the converter input, the integrated starter generator supply, or the converter output.
Location and duration both matter
With the hybrid battery contactor on, the threshold is 6 V or less at the monitored node. The converter-input and ISG branches use a five-second determination period; the converter-output branch uses twenty seconds. A voltage measured elsewhere, or after the contactor has opened as a protective response, is not equivalent to the original detection condition.
Mazda stops converter step-down supply and ISG generation, opens the hybrid battery contactor and supplies 12-volt loads from the conventional battery. The source warns that this battery can then become depleted, with electrical malfunctions and eventual vehicle stopping.
Separate wiring from an internal short
The factory flow reviews originating module faults before testing connectors and charge/discharge paths. It distinguishes open wiring from grounding faults and also considers internal shorts in the ISG or converter. Equipment-dependent seat-control power circuits are part of the applicable branches, making vehicle specification relevant.
Professional verification reproduces a high electrical-load idle event for thirty seconds and checks for recurrence. Do not interpret the code alone as an instruction to replace the hybrid battery. The exact failed node, contactor state and accompanying module records are needed to decide which part of the charging network requires repair.
