The documented Mazda P2504 procedure covers high voltage across the hybrid charging network.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P2504 identifies a charging-system high-voltage condition. Mazda's M Hybrid diagnostic distinguishes the conventional battery, converter input, ISG supply and converter output rather than applying one voltage limit everywhere.

Four measurement points

With the hybrid battery contactor on, the documented five-second limits are at least 15.9 V for the conventional battery, at least 35 V for converter input or ISG supply, or at least 16 V for converter output. These values belong to different electrical nodes. Treating a hybrid-side value as a normal 12-volt charging specification would misread the test.

The response stops converter output and generator production and opens the hybrid battery contactor. Vehicle loads then rely on the conventional battery. Mazda warns that continued operation can deplete that supply and eventually stop the vehicle.

Why connections still matter

The cause list includes poor connections at the converter, battery and ISG, as well as charge/discharge circuits shorted to one another. Accordingly, the procedure checks installation and connector condition before its circuit-isolation decision. A high-voltage report is not, by itself, proof that the generator regulator is the failed part.

The factory confirmation reproduces the recorded driving conditions under controlled, safe data collection. Related P2502, P2503 and originating module records influence the route. Hybrid circuit measurements require the exact professional procedure; preserve the affected node and snapshot information rather than improvising a generic alternator test.
