P2563: Turbo vane position differs from the commanded target
Understand the in-range turbo vane position comparison behind P2563 and its distinction from electrical sensor-limit faults.

Documented application
GM 2009 09OBDG01 Duramax Engine Diagnostics, only the cited ECM monitor. This historical calibration does not establish applicability to every Duramax vehicle or provide a complete service procedure.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P2563 identifies turbocharger boost-control position performance in the cited Duramax monitor. The controller compares desired turbo vane position with actual position and detects an in-range position error. The input can remain electrically plausible while the reported vane position fails to follow the target.
Compare target and feedback together
The listed boundary is a position deviation of at least 15% in either direction, persisting for five seconds. Engine run time must exceed 30 seconds. A single position value, without the desired value and time history, cannot demonstrate whether that comparison failed.
The same source lists P2564 for low sensor voltage and P2565 for high sensor voltage, using separate electrical thresholds. Those codes ask whether the input is electrically valid; P2563 asks whether its position agrees with the command. Conflating them can turn a control-performance problem into an unsupported sensor diagnosis.
What changes the next diagnostic question
The monitor requires P0045 and P2564 not to be active. Preserve those companion faults and the commanded-versus-actual trace before clearing anything. A feedback signal that follows the target with delay and one that remains fixed present different evidence, but the summary does not assign a definitive mechanical or electrical cause to either pattern.
Verification needs a qualified comparison after the run-time prerequisite, not simply a normal-looking vane reading at idle. The code alone does not prove turbocharger damage or justify replacement. Actuator checks, linkage assessment and hot-engine work require the applicable service procedure; the historical table supplies neither a universal actuator test nor model-specific access instructions.
