P2601: A pump A performance result is not the same as an open circuit

Learn the performance subtype behind Ford P2601 and why the high-temperature cabin-heating pump must be identified correctly.

Documented application

Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD summary, July 16, 2024 revision; only the described monitor and architecture. Model, engine and calibration fitment are not inferred.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P2601 describes coolant pump A control performance or a stuck-off result in Ford’s example. It maps to P2600_92, while P2600_13 identifies the separate circuit/open condition. Those subtypes are not interchangeable simply because both may accompany a pump that appears inactive.

Match the commanded function to the reported result

Ford defines pump A here as the high-temperature-loop auxiliary pump for cabin heating. The monitor runs continuously with a five-second duration and a battery-voltage minimum of 11 V. These conditions provide context for when the controller makes its assessment.

The summary also lists a distinct actuator-stuck classification, P2B9C, and separate supply, temperature and speed faults. Their presence shows why “performance/stuck off” should not be expanded into a specific seized-rotor diagnosis without further evidence.

Determine what remains unproven

Preserve the pump command, observed feedback, complete code and accompanying classifications. If a performance result exists without an electrical-circuit result, that distinction remains relevant; absence of an electrical code is not proof that every circuit has passed every possible test.

No universal speed error or response threshold for P2601 is disclosed in this table. A vehicle-specific functional procedure is needed to determine whether the commanded operation was achieved and why it was not. The article does not infer the pump’s location or recommend replacing it from a shortened scanner description.
