P2C50: A valid clutch-actuation signal can still fail rationality
Understand Ford P2C50’s in-range assessment and why an electrical range check alone cannot explain a correlation fault.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P2C50 is identified in Ford’s clutch-actuation position section as an in-range rationality fault. The generic definition describes correlation between clutch-pedal and actuation-position information. The useful distinction is that a signal may remain electrically in range while failing the relationship the controller expects.
Range and plausibility answer different questions
Ford lists P2C4C and P2C4D separately for low and high actuator-position circuits. Passing those electrical classifications therefore cannot, by itself, demonstrate that the actuation information is plausible in context.
The actuation-position monitoring is continuous and specifies less than one second to register a sensor malfunction. This should not be confused with the repeated clutch-application checks described for pedal-switch hardware on the preceding page.
Preserve both the signal and its operating context
Record the complete identifier, actuator state and relevant pedal/actuation information available during the event. A standalone voltage snapshot may show a legal electrical value while losing the relationship that a rationality assessment uses.
The summary does not disclose P2C50’s comparison formula, allowable disagreement or a universal actuator-position threshold. Its brief “in-range rationality” label is insufficient to invent those details. The adjacent throttle-sensor correlation limits belong to a different monitor.
Vehicle-specific diagnosis must identify the actual compared inputs and conditions before attributing the result to a pedal sensor, actuator or mechanical clutch problem. The code supports a plausibility investigation, not automatic replacement of a named component.
