P0473: A high exhaust-pressure circuit signal is separate from real overpressure

Ford diesel P0473 belongs to an electrical signal-range check, while the source’s copied subheading needs confirmation.

Documented application

Ford 2023–2024 diesel OBD summary, revised August 25, 2023; these are documented monitor examples, not confirmed fitment or universal thresholds for every vehicle carrying this generic code.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P0473 is exhaust-pressure sensor A circuit high. In Ford’s diesel summary, it appears with P0472 beneath an upstream turbine pressure signal-range heading. The listed high electrical boundary is above 4.8 V, with a typical two-second monitoring duration.

A high signal is not automatically high gas pressure

This electrical classification is separate from P0471’s stopped-engine pressure offset and P0474’s running model comparison. A diagnostic display may translate signal voltage into pressure, but an electrically invalid input cannot simply be treated as a trustworthy pressure measurement.

Useful evidence therefore preserves whether the fault is a circuit-range result or a plausible-range pressure disagreement. A later pressure value that appears normal does not demonstrate that an earlier intermittent high electrical excursion has been resolved.

Confirm the exact sensor specification

The source’s main heading and DTC descriptions identify exhaust pressure, but two internal subheadings refer to reductant pressure. That apparent copy/paste inconsistency means the listed limit should be confirmed in the correct vehicle service procedure before using it as a physical test specification.

The summary does not provide connector pin identity, a universal sensor transfer function, or an automatic sensor replacement rule. It supplies a high-circuit classification and its surrounding monitor context. Determine the actual reporting sensor and applicable circuit method before attributing P0473 to genuine exhaust overpressure or selecting a component to replace.
