Documented application

2025 GM 25OBDG03A ECM monitor at the cited physical PDF pages only. Vehicle, engine and calibration applicability is not established by the file-level application matrix.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P0523 detects an engine-oil pressure sensor output above its electrical range. The cited GM controller compares the signal with the reference scale and uses a boundary above 95 percent. It requires the oil-pressure sensor to be configured in use and the diagnostic enabled.

High circuit does not prove high oil pressure

A pressure value converted from an excessive sensor signal may look high without representing real lubrication pressure. The monitor's immediate conclusion is electrical out-of-range behavior. It does not independently identify a stuck pressure-control mechanism or prove that the engine has adequate lubrication.

The controller counts 1,280 failures among 1,600 samples at 3.125 milliseconds each. Its Type B, two-trip reporting means both stored history and current signal status are useful; a normal value after the event does not negate the recorded window.

Verification needs a trustworthy pressure source

Record raw output and reference context before interpreting the derived pressure. The threshold-page equation has awkward formatting, so no universal voltage conversion or pin test is inferred here. Use the applicable circuit method to determine why the output rises beyond range.

If actual oil pressure is uncertain, follow the vehicle's professional pressure-verification procedure. A circuit code does not justify continued running with an active oil-pressure warning. After correction, confirm a completed passing high-range monitor and credible pressure information. The table does not select the sensor, pump or controller as the replacement part.

Source and applicability

This explanation is limited to the 2025 GM 25OBDG03A monitor on page 330. Its thresholds are calibration examples, not universal specifications. Confirm the vehicle, engine and controller procedure before applying them.
