P0520: Distinguish a digital oil-pressure fault from an analog voltage limit
Learn why Ford P0520 requires identifying SENT versus analog oil-pressure sensing before applying circuit thresholds.

Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD summary, July 16, 2024 revision; only the described monitor and architecture. Model, engine and calibration fitment are not inferred.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P0520 concerns the engine oil-pressure sensor circuit, but the cited Ford table distinguishes two sensor architectures. The bare code is listed for a SENT sensor’s internal signal fault; analog low and high faults are separately identified by P0522 and P0523. Treating every P0520 as the same analog-voltage failure can send the investigation in the wrong direction.
Identify which signal is being assessed
For the digital sensor, the table groups internal signal and communication monitoring, with U0600 identifying lost communication. Both checks run continuously and list five seconds to register a malfunction. Battery voltage must exceed 11 V for the circuit check.
The nearby 0.25 V and 4.75 V thresholds belong to the analog sensor section. They are not published SENT communication limits. A meter reading cannot be interpreted against those values merely because the scanner displays an oil-pressure circuit description.
Separate pressure evidence from signal evidence
Preserve the complete code including any suffix, the sensor architecture and whether communication remains available. An internally flagged digital signal and a missing message represent different evidence even when both prevent a trustworthy pressure value.
This monitor description does not establish actual lubricating pressure or prove a mechanical lubrication fault. Equally, an apparently plausible displayed pressure does not explain why an internal sensor fault was reported. Vehicle-specific signal checks and any required pressure verification must be selected after identifying the monitored architecture, rather than assuming the sensor or engine is defective.
