P068E: Cylinder8 glow-control low uses a different category from open load

Understand Ford P068E heating-mode monitoring and the unresolved heading on its continuation page.

Documented application

Ford 2023–2024 diesel OBD summary, August 25, 2023 revision; only the described monitor examples. Confirm the engine and calibration before applying values.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P068E identifies the cylinder 8 glow-plug low-circuit classification in Ford’s V8 diesel example. It appears under short-to-ground checking. The cylinder identity is specific, while the source shares the same monitoring method across the listed glow channels; no unique cylinder 8 threshold is invented here.

Heating mode is required for the documented result

The monitor operates while glow plugs are heating and lists approximately three seconds to register their malfunction. Separate reductant-heater faults in the same section use a different timing, so a heater-relay test should not be substituted for this glow-plug channel.

The low-circuit classification is also separate from an open-load result. A low-current observation alone cannot be assumed to explain a code whose reported electrical category is short to ground.

Do not repair a disputed source caption by guessing

The continuation page presents current criteria beneath a short-to-battery caption even though it follows the short-to-ground panel. This article preserves that ambiguity and does not turn those values into a definitive P068E test limit.

Useful verification retains the heating request, cylinder 8 channel, driver classification and related supply or module faults. The actual V8 circuit procedure must establish the correct criteria and localize the problem. The summary does not provide a direct-power test, connector pin or automatic replacement decision for the glow plug or its controller.
