P2016: low SENT swirl-position value with communication still valid
P2016 detects an abnormally low swirl-position value after the SENT communication prerequisite is satisfied.

Documented application
Documented 2025 GM diagnostic parameter monitor in 25OBDG04B.pdf; model, engine and calibration applicability require vehicle-specific confirmation.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P2016 is an intake-runner position-sensor circuit-low code in the reviewed GM monitor. The source identifies a SENT position sensor and compares its raw position-voltage representation with a low boundary. The communication requirement is an important part of interpreting that result.
A low value differs from lost communication
The failure threshold is below 1.00% in the printed signal scale. The monitor also requires the swirl SENT lost-communication fault to be absent. It therefore describes a low represented value on an otherwise eligible communication path, not simply the absence of messages.
Those percentages should not be silently converted into a universal measured pin voltage. The page provides a controller comparison, not the complete electrical encoding or a probing specification. A scan tool's processed position display may also differ from the raw quantity used by the monitor.
When it can qualify
The system must be outside cranking, the powertrain-relay supply must exceed 11 volts and calibration must enable the diagnostic. The fault counter requires 480 failing samples out of 600 on a 6.25-millisecond task; reporting is Type B over two trips.
Verification should establish that SENT communication is valid and that the low-range monitor has actually completed. If a communication fault remains active, a missing P2016 does not establish a successful sensor-range test. This monitor does not identify a component for replacement or prove a mechanically closed flap. Applicability and the appropriate signal-level procedure must be confirmed from vehicle-specific service information.
