P2709: The F electrical code has architecture-dependent detail in Ford’s tables
Understand Ford P2709 without silently turning different failure suffixes into a universal ground-short definition.

Documented application
Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD operation summary, July 16 2024 revision; only the cited monitor and transmission architectures. No individual vehicle fitment or universal calibration is inferred.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P2709 is a broad shift-solenoid F electrical code in the generic dictionary. Ford's cited rear-wheel-drive architecture table places P2709/P2706_11 in the short-to-ground cell. Other architecture rows show P2709/P2706_01 in that same column, while the general table uses P0998/_11 for F circuit low.
Retain the source differences
The original PDF contains these differing representations. This article does not declare them universal aliases or assume that the suffix difference is irrelevant. Preserve the complete controller code and transmission identity so the applicable service definition can resolve the electrical category.
Ford's general shift-solenoid electrical monitor is continuous and uses smart-driver fault feedback with a typical 1.5-second persistence criterion. Functional F failed-off and failed-on results are separately represented by P2707/_7F and P2708/_7E. Those response categories should not replace the electrical result.
Isolate the reported path only after the mapping is established
A useful record includes command, driver status and simultaneous supply or other channel faults. A later successful F function cannot locate an earlier electrical defect, and a poor response alone does not identify a grounding path.
The summary does not establish a universal F connector terminal, resistance value or replacement. Its incomplete displayed-code mapping remains flagged while the actual vehicle's circuit procedure determines what the reported electrical classification means.
