Documented application
Ford 2004 6.0L diesel OBD summary, revision August 7, 2003, 5R110W coast-clutch/SSA functional monitor; shift labels are the source's internal gear designations.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P2700 has a generic friction-element timing title, but Ford's documented 5R110W monitor identifies the coast clutch failing on or off. The check evaluates clutch function through shaft-speed relationships rather than merely testing solenoid continuity.
The command state determines the test
Ford evaluates a failed-off coast clutch in specified manual ranges. Failed-on behavior is first detected during particular shifts and then checked in specified automatic ranges. The source's internal gear labels should be interpreted through the correct 5R110W service information, not assumed to be a universal driver's selector sequence.
After a bad event, the controller cycles the clutch and tests again. Three bad events are required, and acceptable turbine and intermediate shaft-speed inputs are listed. This repeated-test structure is useful when deciding whether a brief road check actually evaluated the repair.
Directional companion codes
P0751 identifies failed-off and P0752 failed-on behavior in the same coast-clutch group. P2700 alone does not establish the direction or isolate hydraulic versus mechanical causes. Preserve those associated codes and follow the transmission-specific functional diagnostic procedure before deciding on a solenoid or internal transmission repair.

The documented monitor explains the fault decision; vehicle-specific service information is still needed for connector identification and a complete repair procedure.
