P2701: Ford 10R80 clutch leakage requires a measured diagnosis
Ford’s 10R80 bulletin uses clutch-circuit testing to distinguish a CDF cylinder leak from other harsh-shift causes.

Documented application
Ford TSB 25-2131, April 16, 2025, North America: 2022 Expedition/Navigator; 2020–2022 Explorer; 2021–2022 F-150/Mustang; 2020–2023 Transit, all built on or before August 15, 2022 with 10R80. The 10R80 MHT is excluded for Explorer and F-150.
The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.
P2701 is one of the faults covered by Ford’s 10R80 harsh or delayed engagement and shifting bulletin. The proposed mechanical cause is axial movement of the CDF clutch cylinder sleeve, which can create hydraulic leakage. The code is a reason to investigate that possibility on a qualifying vehicle, not proof that the cylinder needs replacement.
Temperature and test outcome control the decision
Ford distinguishes complaints occurring only at transmission-fluid temperatures of 49°C or below from those requiring evaluation at 50°C or above. Testing in the wrong temperature range can miss the customer’s actual condition. Record whether the problem occurs on the first cold engagement, after warming up or in both situations.
The bulletin offers instrumented and suitable pressure-gauge diagnostic routes. Both assess clutch-circuit leakage before internal repair. In the gauge route, the A-clutch result first establishes whether that comparison is valid; an unacceptable A-clutch result sends diagnosis elsewhere. Only the specified subsequent C-versus-A result leads into the CDF repair. A passing overall test likewise returns to normal Workshop Manual diagnosis.
What a confirmed repair includes
When the test directs repair, the procedure replaces the CDF cylinder and the clutch and planetary container cylinder, with other components inspected and replaced only as necessary. It also requires the prescribed reassembly measurements and adaptive learning. This is substantially different from a code-based solenoid swap.
Have a transmission specialist verify the exact transmission and build date, retain the pressure-test result and explain which decision branch justified the work. The bulletin does not apply to every Ford ten-speed vehicle and does not support internal disassembly solely because P2701 was retrieved.
