P0756: Solenoid B failed-off evidence is accumulated across control events

Learn what Ford P0756 functional monitoring establishes and why a normal electrical circuit does not complete the diagnosis.

Documented application

Ford 2024–2025 gasoline OBD operation summary, July 16 2024 revision; only the cited monitor and transmission architectures. No individual vehicle fitment or universal calibration is inferred.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P0756 indicates a functionally failed-off result for shift solenoid B in the cited Ford strategy. An electrically plausible driver signal does not automatically refute that result: the controller is asking whether the commanded activity produced the expected functional state.

A counter preserves more than the latest observation

Ford's functional monitor runs during off-to-on transitions. Its example filter rises by three for a bad event and falls by one when a clutch is correctly positioned during a non-shifting observation. Reaching nine stores the fault. A single successful event can therefore coexist with a history that still matters.

The document distinguishes a roughly one-second observation during shifting from a roughly 2.5-second non-shifting event. Neither duration should be turned into a universal manual actuation instruction; the controller's actual shift phase determines which observation is being evaluated.

Separate the B-channel failure categories

P0756 is paired with P0755_7F. The same architecture table places P097B/P0755_13 in the open-circuit category and P0757/_7E in the failed-on category. These distinctions help decide whether the immediate question is electrical integrity, absence of an expected response or an inappropriate functional state.

A useful record includes the commanded transition, observed response and companion electrical status. The table does not identify a universal B-controlled clutch or diagnose a restricted passage. The specific transmission's service procedure must translate this functional contradiction into a justified next test.
