P2764: TCC circuit low needs confirmation beyond the initial driver indication

Understand how P2764 distinguishes a persistent ground fault from preliminary low-circuit evidence.

Documented application

2025 GM 25OBDG06C documented monitor only. Vehicle, engine and calibration applicability must be confirmed from the matching service information; no model fitment is inferred.

The code alone does not identify a failed part or establish that a vehicle is safe to drive. Confirm the vehicle, reporting module and applicable service procedure.

P2764 is the ground-fault classification for the torque-converter clutch pressure-control solenoid circuit. GM describes an initial driver-level low indication followed by a more specific controller-run test. That sequence helps explain why an early pending fault is not yet equivalent to a completed ground-short diagnosis.

Follow the two-stage decision

A single hardware detection can establish pending status. After at least three samples of the initial condition, the controller changes its low-side-driver state for an intrusive diagnostic check. A short-to-ground indication persisting for at least three further test samples produces the malfunction result.

The row lists 20 ms checking frequency and a 120 ms time requirement. These are internal diagnostic actions and timings, not instructions to disconnect a circuit or simulate a short manually.

Distinguish the shared starting symptom

P2761’s open-circuit monitor can begin from a similar low hardware indication. The subsequent classification is what separates an open result from P2764. Treating any low reading as definitive proof of a ground path would skip that distinction.

Supply voltage, high-side-driver enablement, relevant companion faults and cranking restrictions govern eligibility. Preserve those states with the final subtype and its pending/confirmed status. A later normal driving response cannot reconstruct the original electrical event. The source does not locate a short or identify a failed solenoid; the applicable circuit procedure must determine where the electrical behavior originates.
